Royal paths
The 1st arrondissement wears its number with pride. It is first in many respects, not least of which is the interest it arouses. Starting with the enlightened way it has of outwitting time, epochs and experiences, as it embodies more so than any other centuries-old Paris with time-honoured treasures. Surrounding number 22, Rue de Richelieu, the centuries mingle with pleasure, styles gaily rub shoulders, and whirling zeitgeists are at the service of a genuinely Parisian art of living.
In other words, Hôtel Aoriste is in the most astounding company, with Palais-Royal, the Louvre, Rue Saint-Honoré, the new Fondation Cartier, Opéra Garnier in its midst, to name but a few. And on the gourmet front, there is a host of Michelin-star establishments, neo-brasseries and Japanese restaurants. Just let your eye wander and see whatever takes your fancy.
The Surrounding Area
The past historic
Hôtel Aoriste’s quarter brandishes its credentials — writ large and undisputably — with countless monuments and edifices that bear the memory of the past. Palais-Royal, of course, is just a stone’s throw away, with its famous gardens that are ideal for taking a pleasant stroll. Then, there is the oval room at the Bibliothèque Nationale, the Louvre and Tuileries, the Comédie-Française, Opéra Garnier and the Bouffes-Parisiens. Not forgetting the little gems of covered passages, which include Galerie de Montpensier, the magic of Passage Vivienne and, on a more luxurously intimate note, Galerie Véro-Dodat.
Take in the grandeur of the architecture, sit down on a bench or at a terrace to contemplate the view. Wherever you go in the 1st arrondissement, enjoy taking time to take time to wander around for countless lessons in History.
Places of Interest
Future perfect
The historic façades speak for themselves, but behind them the creative revolution is ongoing. This is what makes the area around Hôtel Aoriste unique. The Buren columns challenge Palais-Royal; the Fondation Cartier now occupies the former Louvre des Antiquaires, with the emphasis on contemporary art, while the Bourse de Commerce — revisited by architect Tadao Ando — originally the corn exchange, now houses the Pinault Collection.
At the Louvre, Pei’s glass pyramid now blends seamlessly into the setting, while Palais-Royal metro station is adorned with a jewel sculpture by Jean-Michel Othoniel. Museums, gardens, foundations and monuments are to be visited time and time again, as the heritage is constantly added to.
Local Spirit
Exhilarating present
Paris life is in full swing all around Hôtel Aoriste, with superlative culinary experiences, the latest trends in shopping and extraordinary vitality. The improvised swing of Saturdays and Sundays on Place Colette, where nostalgia performs jubilant pirouettes; and the historical small cannon at Palais-Royal continues to roar at noon every Wednesday. The wide range of gourmet establishments is still as vibrant as ever, with Michelin-star addresses that include Philip Chronopoulos’s Palais-Royal Restaurant and Yoshitaka Takayanagi’s Granite — the guarantee of unforgettable sensations. The immutable Grand Véfour celebrates the renewal of traditional French gastronomy, while Café Marly is the unrivalled place to be “to see and be seen”. And to go a step further, just a stone’s throw from Hôtel Aoriste, the Japanese restaurant Kodawari Ramen is a highly popular travel destination in itself.
Those who love to shop aren’t left behind either: choose from avant-garde design in the Palais-Royal arcades, rare fragrances in Rue Saint-Honoré, the unmissable fashion houses in Rue Cambon and Place Vendôme A little further along, the Grands Magasins (major department stores) on Boulevard Haussmann offer a host of great classics and the latest on-trend items.

Whether you’re on your way to the hotel, out for a walk, on your way in or out, off home, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to getting around. Paris is your oyster.
